Basic Safety and Electrical Fundamentals Are you interested in working in the field of Electrical Engineering? This short course will prepare you for a rewarding career, as it teaches you the basics that you will need in order to work with electricity.
Included in this course is a First Aid Level 1 qualification, accredited and recognised by the South African Red Cross Society. This course will help you to develop valuable life–skills, giving you the ability to help in an emergency situation, providing assistance until the emergency services can give the appropriate treatment.
After completing this short course, you will be able to adhere to safety signs and regulations and apply basic health and safety legislation, which will contribute to a safe and healthy industry.

Entrance Requirements
Grade 9 (Std 7) with Mathematics and Communication. (If you don’t meet the minimum entrance requirements, but you have 2 years’ relevant work experience, please contact your nearest INTEC branch to apply for possible admission to the course.)
Course Duration
You should be able to complete this course within 4 to 6 months.
Course Content
This course consists of the following topics:
- Applying health and safety to a work area
- Applying and maintaining safety in an electrical environment
- First aid
- Demonstrating an understanding of the uses and safety aspects
associated with flammable energy sources - Understanding fundamentals of electricity
Assessment
Basic Safety and Electrical Fundamentals
You are required submit an assignment to the College for marking.
First AidYou will need to submit 3 multiple–choice tests for First Aid Level 1, which will qualify you for your practical exam with the Red Cross Society. You will be given an application form, which you need to complete and send to INTEC College. We will arrange for you to take your exam at a Red Cross branch near you, and notify you of the exam date and venue. Practical exams are held at Red Cross centres across the country four times a year.
Award
After you successfully complete your formative assignment and your practical exam with the Red Cross Society, you will receive your INTEC Short Course Certificate in Basic Safety and Electrical Fundamentals.
