Technical Matric


In order to gain a Technical Senior Certificate, you need to complete an NTC 3 Certificate in your chosen field as well as two languages (one of which must be a first language on Higher Grade).

Entrance Requirements:
Either the successful completion of NTC 2 in your chosen field or Grade 11 / (Std.9).

Electrical Engineering

Your future in Electrical Engineering

Every stage in the generation and distribution of electricity directly involves the Electrical Engineering Technician. You will be responsible for the design, operation and installation of all types of electrical operating equipment. You will also be responsible for everything from the control of industrial processes to domestic installation practice.

Basic Safety and Electrical Fundamentals

Are you interested in working in the field of Electrical Engineering? This short course will prepare you for a rewarding career, as it teaches you the basics that you will need in order to work with electricity.

Included in this course is a First Aid Level 1 qualification, accredited and recognised by the South African Red Cross Society. This course will help you to develop valuable life–skills, giving you the ability to help in an emergency situation, providing assistance until the emergency services can give the appropriate treatment.

After completing this short course, you will be able to adhere to safety signs and regulations and apply basic health and safety legislation, which will contribute to a safe and healthy industry.

Entrance Requirements
Grade 9 (Std 7) with Mathematics and Communication. (If you don’t meet the minimum entrance requirements, but you have 2 years’ relevant work experience, please contact your nearest INTEC branch to apply for possible admission to the course.)

Course Duration
You should be able to complete this course within 4 to 6 months.

Course Content
This course consists of the following topics:

  • Applying health and safety to a work area
  • Applying and maintaining safety in an electrical environment
  • First aid
  • Demonstrating an understanding of the uses and safety aspects
    associated with flammable energy sources
  • Understanding fundamentals of electricity

Assessment
Basic Safety and Electrical Fundamentals
You are required submit an assignment to the College for marking.

First Aid
You will need to submit 3 multiple–choice tests for First Aid Level 1, which will qualify you for your practical exam with the Red Cross Society. You will be given an application form, which you need to complete and send to INTEC College. We will arrange for you to take your exam at a Red Cross branch near you, and notify you of the exam date and venue. Practical exams are held at Red Cross centres across the country four times a year.

Award
After you successfully complete your formative assignment and your practical exam with the Red Cross Society, you will receive your INTEC Short Course Certificate in Basic Safety and Electrical Fundamentals.

Chemical Studies

Water and Waste Practice

Achieve success in the Water Care industry the INTEC way! As a water treatment operator, your duties will include purifying water for analysis in the laboratory, general maintaining the plant and basic administrative tasks.

The course focuses on the usage of water, water sources, water supply and the environment, water quality and treatment, waste-water, and sanitation systems. You will also learn about waste-water treatment, record-keeping, safety measures and basic laboratory procedures and practices.

Chemical Process Control

This course is for you if you have mechanical ability and a skill for working with your hands. Master the art of maintaining and repairing cars, motorcycles, buses, trucks and other vehicles. By successfully completing Electrician NTC 3, you put yourself on the road to becoming an artisan. You then have the choice of becoming an electrical technician by going on to complete NTC 4, NTC 5 and NTC 6.

Installation Electrician

Acquire the skills that will allow you to be responsible for installing wiring, control equipment and switchboards according to safety regulations. Get involved in planning installations and accurately selecting the necessary cables, conductors and protective devices.

Auto Electrician
